Conductive Ceramics

Beta-alumina products and other ion-conductive ceramics

Ionotec manufactures ion-conductive ceramics tailored to individual application requirements. These products are mostly based on beta"-alumina, a hard polycrystalline ceramic in which the mobile ion may be Na+, K+, Ag+, Pb2+, Sr2+ or Ba2+.  For other types of ceramic e.g. H+ and Li+ conductors, oxygen ion conductors and electronically conductive ceramics we may be able to help depending on the application; please ask for advice.

Most applications of beta"-alumina ceramics are concerned with conductivity to Na+ or to K+. For both types we can supply beta"-alumina ceramics stabilized either with Li or with Mg, with or without zirconium oxide added as a strengthening agent. Ceramic membranes are available in the form of thin-walled tubes, flat discs or plates.

Dimensions

Tubes can be supplied fitted with insulating ceramic headers, and in turn bonded to a metallic component if desired. Prices are dependent on quantity, type and fittings.

The dimensions of standard products are shown in the table below; Ionotec's manufacturing process can however be adapted to customers' individual requirements.
